Living legend of Latin American song. Born in La Romana, Dominican Republic, in 1954. Winner of the Viña del Mar International Festival (1986) with "Para Quererte", performed by Maridalia Hernández.

Nine albums with collaborations including Juan Luis Guerra, Manuel Tejada, Gonzalo Rubalcaba, Silvio Rodríguez, and Carlos Varela. Minister of Culture of the Dominican Republic (2012-2016). Ambassador to UNESCO (2016-2020), where he achieved the recognition of merengue and bachata as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

Founder of Fundación Retajila (9 debut albums for emerging artists) and Nido para Ángeles (foundation for children with severe brain damage). Soberano al Mérito 2026.

His prolific career has left its mark on hundreds of projects, including collaborations with renowned artists and international record labels. His ear was trained in Boston's rehearsal halls, but his soul draws from the rich musical traditions of Latin America.
